Appearance
A steel ingot is colored gray to white in a way that appears metallic. Its rounded, rectangular shape is thicker than other ingots, making it distinctive. It it also brighter than an iron ingot.
Where Found
Making a steel ingot requires the use of a furnace or electric furnace. Both uses coal and an iron ingot, but while the regular furnace consumes two coal, the electric uses only one.

They can also be found in golden chests or received as bonuses.
Crafting
It takes five steel ingots to make a steel block.

Five steel ingots, one glass and one oil can be used to craft steel lanterns at an electric or standard level 2 metalwork bench. Prior to version 1.4, they were instead made at a craft bench.

Starting in version 1.5, five steel ingots, one glass and one oil can be used to craft steel downlights and steel uplights at an electric or standard level 2 metalwork bench.

A train yard can be crafted at a level 3 workbench with one stone and five steel ingots.

A steel ingot, a steel block and ten copper wire can be used to craft an electric metalwork bench at a level 4 workbench.

Five steel ingots, a magnet and ten copper wire can be used at an electric or standard level 2 metalwork bench to craft an electric motor.

Five steel ingots, a copper boiler and ten coal can be used at an electric or standard level 2 metalwork bench to craft a steam engine.

Bench Upgrades
Five steel ingots are required to upgrade a workbench from level 3 to level 4.

Five steel ingots are required to upgrade a tool bench from level 4 to level 5.

A steel ingot and a diamond are required to upgrade a press to level 3.

Three steel ingots are required to upgrade an easel to level 3.

Crafted Tools
Steel ingots are used to craft three tools: a steel pickaxe, a crowbar and a razor.

A crowbar can be crafted at both a tool bench and a train yard.
|

Notes
Prior to version 1.4 and the introduction of the electric furnace, making a steel ingot consumed five coal.
