Steel Ingots are used in crafting.
Apperance
A steel ingot is colored gray to white in a way that appears metallic. Its rounded, rectangular shape is thicker than other ingots, making it distinctive.
Where Found
Making a steel ingot requires the use of a furnace or electric furnace. Both uses coal and an iron ingot, but while the regular furnace consumes two coal, the electric uses only one.
They can also be found in golden chests or received as bonuses.
Crafting
It takes five steel ingots to make a steel block.
Steel ingots may be used to craft steel lanterns, which are produced at an electric or standard level 2 metalwork bench. Prior to version 1.4, they were instead made at a craft bench.
Starting in version 1.5, steel ingots can be used to craft steel downlights and steel uplights.
A train yard can be crafted at a level 2 workbench with one stone and five steel ingots.
Along with a steel block and ten copper wire, an electric metalwork bench can be crafted.
Five steel ingots can be used to upgrade a workbench from level three to level four.
Steel ingots can be used on a level 4 tool bench to upgrade it to level 5 tool bench, which can then make steel pickaxes and crowbars.
