"Light your night."

A basic torch is an item that when placed gives off a small light radius. It will not start a fire, even if placed directly on wood.

Appearance

A torch has the appearance of a small orange-yellow flame on a vertical stick. When placed on the side of a block, it will face the direction opposite of the side the blockhead placed it on.

Where Found

Basic torches are crafted at a campfire.

Uses

Basic torches may be used as a light source. They may be placed on the top or side of solid blocks, or on backwall. Light will travel for approximately nine blocks from a torch. However, many torches are needed for lighting up large structures such as a cave or a large building. Since torches emit only a small amount of light, a blockhead must be standing directly on it to maintain its happiness in a dark area.

Trivia

In real life, simply lighting the end of a stick with a campfire would make a very short-lived torch, as it would quickly burn down the stick. Real torches put more combustible materials such as tar or oil-soaked fabric on one end and use a stick or similar object as a handle.
