What constitutes a tool?

There are several sides to this argument.

1. An item that can be used on things in the world

This includes:
  • Our current tools
  • Paint
  • Paint stripper--McClaw (talk) 07:58, 7 January 2014 (MST)
  • Magnet
  • More...?

2. All items that are effective as weapons

This includes:
  • Our current tools

3. All items that can be used for something

This includes:

4. All items made at the Tool Bench

This includes:
  • Our current tools minus hand

What definition should we use? Should we make the Tool category reflect that definition? --Abcboy (talk) 20:04, 25 December 2013 (MST)

Also, is a Camera a tool? --Abcboy (talk) 20:06, 25 December 2013 (MST)
It does seem to need narrowing down. IMO, #1 and #2 are definitely in the definition. Maybe things that are implied to be held by a Blockhead while in use? I've started a list of proposed removals from the category, although we might find articles that will need to join another to avoid being uncategorized. --McClaw (talk) 07:43, 7 January 2014 (MST)
The problem with that is every item, when selected, will show up in a blockhead's hand. Even things like chillies and trapdoors. --Abcboy (talk) 07:52, 7 January 2014 (MST)
Being in a hand is not the same thing as being used. One standard could be those items that can show their icon in the space being acted on (which could allow Hand). Hm, what would you say to a category for all the various benches?
Makes sense. Category:Crafting Surface? --Abcboy (talk) 08:00, 7 January 2014 (MST)
Done. I'll see about switching benches over. --McClaw (talk) 08:37, 7 January 2014 (MST)
Ok so if number one is the case then everything is a tool! I think that everything in the Tool bench is a tool, because paint is used to decorate, not farm. Quest130 (talk) 15:33, 7 December 2014 (MST)
