Switching over to electric crafting is a big advantage ("free" fuel, less time, triple the iron and half the coal cost for steel), but has a big start-up cost. The minimum is a steam generator and electric furnace, which means two steel blocks, one iron ingot, ten copper wire, a steam engine, and an electric motor. Reducing to "raw" materials, that's 66 iron ore, 50 coal, 27 copper ore, 9 tin ore, one black sand, and access to water just to get a working electric furnace. Not to mention an existing furnace, metalwork bench, level 3 workbench (five more steel ingots for that upgrade), and the fuel to process everything! --McClaw (talk) 09:35, 14 October 2013 (MDT)
