Pickaxes are one of the most commonly [[Crafting|crafted]] and used tools by a [[Blockhead]]. Their specific purpose is to mine or destroy hard material [[Blocks|blocks]] and [[:Category:Ore|ores]] at a faster rate and sometimes greater results than by hand. Used over time, a pickaxe will slowly degrade and eventually be destroyed.     

Pickaxes are [[Crafting|crafted]] either at the [[Tool Bench|tool bench]] or at a [[Portal|portal]].

Tool bench pickaxes are standard pickaxes with increasing durability due to materials. For an increase in quality, a Blockhead will need to upgrade the [[Tool Bench|tool bench]] to the appropriate level before crafting the desired pickaxe. These pickaxes, with the exception of gold pick axes, do not provide any special benefit over one another when mining or harvesting hard material [[Blocks|blocks]] or [[:Category:Ore|ores]]. Gold pickaxes have the benefit of finding additional random items in the material block being mined or harvested.

Gemstone pickaxes are pickaxes made of gemstones at a [[Portal|portal]] that have a benefit over pickaxes crafted in a [[Tool Bench|tool bench]]. These pickaxes produce a bigger production yield of materials being mined or harvested than their [[Tool Bench|tool bench]] counterparts. The more precious and rare the gemstone, the greater the production yield bonus. For an increase in quality, an upgrade to the appropriate level of a [[Portal|portal]] is required before crafting the desired pickaxe.

Yield increases do not appear to apply to [[:Category:Creature|creatures]] or blocks used in [[Construction|construction]]. They're verified to not apply to [[Ice|ice]]. It's likely they also don't apply to "inappropriate" blocks (such as [[:Category:Plant|plants]] and [[Tree|trees]]). They have been verified to apply to newly created [[Basalt|basalt]].
