A Furnace is a crafting surface that allows the smelting of ingots.
Where Found
A furnace can be created at a level 2 workbench for one stone and 10 charcoal. The furnace created will be at its lowest level until it is upgraded. A furnace has a total of 3 levels.

In version 1.3, crafting a gold block was moved to the metalwork bench. In version 1.4, crafting a steel ingot was changed to require less coal, two instead of five.
