- "Bright and waterproof."
Steel Lanterns are an improved version of the oil lantern. They were introduced in version 1.2.
Appearance
A steel lantern is mostly gray, shaded to resemble steel. A loop/handle is on top, and a narrow section in the middle has a shifting yellow-orange core implying a flame.
Where Found
Steel lanterns are produced at an electric or standard metalwork bench.

Prior to version 1.4, they were instead made at a craft bench.
Use
Like an oil lantern, a steel lantern can be placed on any back wall, side or top of a solid block, and even on leaves or tree trunks. Unlike oil lanterns, they are waterproof, and won't be dislodged by water, whether flowing or stationary.
The light given off is whiter and travels farther in comparison to an oil lantern.
