Rail is a tool that allows blockheads to ride a steam locomotive or rail handcar on them once placed. It was introduced in version 1.4.
2 steel ingot and 1 wood= 10 rails
10 steel ingot and 5 wood= 50 rails
20 steel ingot and 10 wood= 100 rails
100 steel and 50 wood= 500 rails

1,000 steel ingot and 500 wood= 5,000 rails
3,000 steel ingot and 1,500 wood= 15,000 rails
ABOUT 3,300 steel ingots and 1,650 wood required to build track around the world.
Appearance
A piece of rail has two silvery, parallel bars crossed by two or more brown bars.
Where Found
Rail is made in batches of ten, and can be made at the train yard. Each batch of ten rail takes two steel ingots and one wood.

|
Crafting
Rail is required to make a train station.

Use
Rail can only be placed on the ground or on the side of a solid block. If placed adjacent to a solid block on the same level, it will angle up toward the top of that block. If the adjacent block is removed, the angled rail will lay flat. If the lower blocks are at the same level, the slope will extend out up to two blocks (a gentler 26 degree slope instead of 45 degree).
Placed rails can be removed by tapping on them using a crowbar or by removing the block underneath; the former sends the removed rail to the acting blockhead's inventory, the latter drops it in that place.
Notes
Crafting surfaces, chests, and similar items may be placed in the same space as rail, although ladders cannot. The placed items don't interfere with rail use.
Trees and leaves will not interfere with rails beyond the need to carefully place them on the top of a solid block. Other plants will block rail placement.
A trapdoor with rail across its top is still usable.
