"Transport items via rail."

Freight cars are a kind of train car that carries items similarly to a chest. They can only be moved when on rails, and when attached to a steam locomotive.

Appearance

A freight car looks like a chest on the center of a wooden platform with a wheel at each corner.

Where Found

Freight cars must be made on a train yard for four train wheels, one wood, and one chest. In total, these components amount to 12 steel ingots and two wood. If the chest used for crafting contains any items, they will drop when crafting begins.

Use

As with the steam locomotive or passenger car, a freight car can only be placed on existing rails. It is three blocks wide, and so should be placed with at least a one rail to either side or it will immediately drop as a loose item. If placed close enough to another car or locomotive, they will automatically be linked. If not linked to a locomotive, a freight car will sit idle.

Otherwise, a freight car functions similarly to a chest, allowing items to be stored in or removed from it.

Trivia

The freight cart can carry any type of cargo, however in real life many different types of cars are used to carry many different types of cargo. Most have more structure around and over the cargo.

The design is similar to a handcar with the central post and rocker replaced by a chest.
