Using
Like other crafting surfaces, a builder's bench must be placed on top of, next to, or below a solid block, on backwall, on top of, next to, or below another bench or chest, before it can be used.
Tapping on a builder's bench gives two options: Remove and Builder's Bench.
Remove causes the selected blockhead to move to the bench and place it in his/her inventory.
Builder's Bench opens the crafting menu, showing a left-right scrollable list of icons. See Crafting for details about how to use the menu. Tapping the "Craft" button (if visible) will add the task to the selected blockhead's queue.
Tapping outside of the menu will close the menu with no action taken.
Notes
Prior to version 1.6, the stonemason's bench only held the stone, limestone, marble, sandstone, red marble, lapis lazuli, basalt and ice columns and stairs, and it only had one level (current level 1 appearance).
In version 1.6, all other columns and stairs were either new or moved from other benches:
*Wood columns and stairs were moved from the woodwork bench.
*Brick columns and stairs were moved from the kiln/electric kiln.
*Copper, tin, bronze, iron, steel and gold columns and stairs were moved from the metalwork bench/electric metalwork bench.
The remaining columns and stairs - glass, black glass, carbon fiber, titanium and platinum columns and stairs - were introduced in the update.
In version 1.7, plaster, plaster columns and stairs, and the various gem columns and stairs were introduced. Carbon fiber columns and stairs were adjusted to produce two of each by doubling the materials needed as well.

The remaining columns and stairs - glass, black glass, carbon fiber, titanium and platinum columns and stairs - were introduced in the update.

In version 1.7, plaster, plaster columns and stairs, and the various gem columns and stairs were introduced. Carbon fiber columns and stairs were adjusted to produce two of each by doubling the materials needed as well.
