While they can be found in cave troll lairs or caves in general, golden chests are most common just above bedrock, so get a good supply of shovels and go digging. Start adjacent to "sea level" water, but don't bother going more than 12-16 blocks down. Once you reach (or see) bedrock, start digging sideways. You can try looking under deserts, but I've always had better luck with sand that (at least partially) underlies dirt or water, not that lies atop or abuts vertically. Circumnavigating is a good time to go treasure hunting; you'll be able to check all the beaches if you have enough shovels and end up with dozens of chests by the time you're home. --McClaw (talk) 21:00, 19 March 2014 (MDT) | While they can be found in cave troll lairs or caves in general, golden chests are most common just above bedrock, so get a good supply of shovels and go digging. Gems, Golden Chests, and Time Crystals require caves below the bedrock line. When using the Custom World options, selecting "no caves" means there will be none of these below the top of the bedrock. --McClaw (talk) 21:02, 16 August 2016 (MDT) |

Tips
--McClaw (talk) 21:00, 19 March 2014 (MDT)
Gems, Golden Chests, and Time Crystals require caves below the bedrock line. When using the Custom World options, selecting "no caves" means there will be none of these below the top of the bedrock. --McClaw (talk) 21:02, 16 August 2016 (MDT)
