Some items appear naturally in the game and others are crafted by your Blockhead.
Items can be destroyed by dragging them out of the Blockhead's inventory. They'll fall to the ground and disappear within a couple game days. Put them where your Blockhead is not likely to walk in that time so they aren't automatically picked up again.
Some items are able to be generated by various methods such as farming or meditating. Others are of finite supply in a world, but each world is a rather large place.
