A resource egg is a special dodo egg that comes in 32 different variants.
Where Found
Each type of egg is laid by the respective dodo breed or one that is a tier lower or higher.
Appearance
They look like dodo eggs, except the texture resembles that of the respective resource.
Crafting
All resource eggs can be processed through an egg extractor, yielding two of the respective resource.
Uses
If left alone on the ground, a resource egg will hatch into the appropriate dodo breed within a couple of days. Resource eggs in a blockhead's inventory, in a container, or dropped on the ground as a loose item will not hatch. If placed, they will hatch, even indoors or underground. It is possible to do dodo breed farming this way.
To reach a higher tier, a blockhead needs to have two same-type dodos with each other (for example, having two iron dodos can produce a gold egg). Otherwise, they can only lay a respective dodo breed or one that is a tier lower (for example, having one titanium dodo can produce either a titanium egg or gold egg).
Unlike Dodo Eggs, resource dodos drop their respective resource once upon their death and never drop dodo feathers and dodo eggs. Baby resource dodos do not drop anything upon their death.
If a player wants to farm resource eggs, it is recommended to tame the dodos to prevent them from dying. Laying an egg lowers the dodo's hunger.
Strategies
In Expert Mode, resource eggs are very useful, especially during early-middle game. For example, in the 13th upgrade of the workbench, it requires 1 red marble column+1 lapis lazuli column+1 sapphire, so a player needs to obtain the eggs in order: dodo egg --> stone egg --> limestone egg --> marble egg --> red marble egg --> lapis lazuli egg. This is useful if a player did not have protective gear to find lapis lazuli and red marble blocks due to the presence of scorpions and drop bears.
A player can also obtain titanium and platinum ores without needing to mine, so using resource eggs are also helpful to obtain them.
Trivia
- Resource eggs were introduced in version 1.7.
