Vines are a type of introduced in version 1.6.

Appearance

Vines appear similarly to a tangle of green strands with occasional bulges suggesting leaves. Vines will extend downward in a continuous ribbon.

They exist across the front of solid blocks. Blockheads move behind them, much like columns and signs.

Where Found

Vines are found mainly on floating islands. They can also be obtained via a level 2 trade portal or by meditating blockheads.

Farming

Vines can be placed on any block (although compost and dirt work the best) and will grow if there is space below them, whether it is a block or air. They can be harvested by hand or a machete which triples the drop obtained.

Crafting

Five vines can be used to craft compost at a compost bin.
