- "Speed up and down."
An elevator shaft is a block that assists blockheads with vertical travel.
Appearance
Resembling a crafting surface, an electric elevator motor is silvery white in color with a vertical line in the middle and several shaded spots resembling indentions on each side.
Where Found
An electric elevator motor is created at a metalwork bench (either electric or level 2) for 1 steel block and 5 copper wires.

|
Prior to version 1.5.1, a non-electric metalwork bench could be used to make ten elevator shafts for one block of steel and ten copper wires, which was more steel-efficient than an electric metalwork bench.
Use
There is no crafting possible with an elevator shaft, despite it being placed and passed by blockheads just like them. Instead, blockheads can climb placed shafts like ladders. Alternately, if a powered electric elevator motor is at the top or bottom of a continuous column of shafts, a traveling blockhead may enter the shaft at one point and very quickly exit at another.
Entering and exiting an elevator shaft is accompanied by a musical "ding" sound, with the exit sound being lower in tone than the enter sound. Visually, the shaft opens in the middle (like sliding doors) and the blockhead enters or exits.
Tapping on an elevator shaft will cause a blockhead to remove it.
It is possible to place a solid block in front of an elevator shaft. Blockheads will still be able to travel using the elevator. To remove the concealed elevator shaft, the block must be removed first.
Notes
The first time a player has a blockhead use an elevator shaft, they earn the achievement "Ding."
