Sapphires are naturally found in the cavernous networks and underground regions of the [[world]]. They are typically surrounded by hard rock, such as [[stone]]. Rarely but occasionally, they can be found underwater in a subterranean confined or perched aquifer. They may be purchased from a level 2 [[Trade Portal|trade portal]]. They can also be found in a [[Golden Chest|golden chest]], received from [[Meditate|meditation]], or growing on a [[Gem Tree|gem tree]].

 

Sapphires are needed to upgrade a portal to a [[Portal#Level_3_-_Sapphire_Portal|sapphire (level 3) portal]], allowing a [[blockhead]] to craft an [[Sapphire Pickaxe|sapphire pickaxe]].

They can also be used to upgrade a [[Trade Portal|trade portal]] from level 2 to level 3, increasing the variety of items that can be bought and sold.
