Wood is obtainable when you cut down any tree.  More wood can be harvested more efficiently by using an ax.  Each block of wood harvested with an ax will produce 3 wood.  You can also burn the tree up with an ember or campfire, but this produces less wood.

Wood is a very important resource.  You can plant maple seeds and pine cones to grow more trees for wood.
